Access Number
This is the number you call with your analog and ISDN modems to connect to the Internet.

Primary DNS
DNS Stands for "Domain Name Service". A DNS server will translate the address of a computer on the Internet to a friendly name, such as www.tcq.net. We recommend that you use 'Server Assigned DNS' in your dialer settings, if this is available. The Primary DNS address is the IP address of our main DNS server, which will translate addresses for you.

Secondary DNS
The Secondary DNS server is a backup to the Primary DNS Server. It is recommended that you use both addresses.

POP Mail Server
POP stands for "Post Office Protocol". The POP Mail Server hosts your Internet mailbox. This server will be used to check your incoming e-mail.

SMTP Mail Gateway
SMTP stands for "Simple Mail Transfer Protocol". The SMTP server is responsible for sending your outgoing e-mail. Because this server does not store mail, it is referred to as a gateway.

NNTP News Server
NNTP stands for "News Network Transfer Protocol". This server is used to access Usenet Newsgroups. Usenet is like a Bulletin board service,  where messages can be read and posted.

FTP Server
FTP stands for "File Transfer Protocol". This server is used to host files which are viewed on the World Wide Web, such as graphics and HTML documents.

IP Address
IP stands for Internet Protocol. The IP Address is an address you are assigned when you connect to the Internet. Because this address is dynamic, you will be assigned a different address every time you connect.

Web Site Address
All TCQ Internet access accounts come with 25MB of personal web space. The web site address is the location of this web space. For information on setting up your web site, click here.
