What is the
Message Center?
Message Center
is an email protection service that provides each user with a Message Center
where your spam and viruses are filtered and quarantined.
Your legitimate email messages are delivered to your email inbox,
just as they always have, but junk and virus-infected email is routed to
your Message Center. You can also customize the service from within the
Message Center. This document talks about using and managing your
Message Center. Getting the most
out of your Message Center
It is strongly
recommended that you check your Message Center daily at first so your
filters "learn" to be more effective and accurate. Upon regular
review, remove the unwanted messages and deliver the ones you want. You
can also safely read the contents of a virus-infected email in your Message Center
without the risk of harming your own personal system. All
quarantined messages are held for 14 days until they are automatically
deleted.
Once logged in you can manage the following features of your email
protection service.
Under junk quarantine settings you can;
Under virus settings you can set;
|
|
Virus: A self-replicating program or programming code that can damage data or programs on your computer.
|
Worm: A type of virus that resides in the active memory on your computer, where it self-replicates and typically consumes computing resources. Eventually, it can cause your computer to work very slowly, or not even work at all.
|
Trojan horse: A program that is either hidden inside another program or masquerades as an innocent program. A Trojan horse can damage data or programs on your computer, allow others to access your computer, or even retrieve your personal data.
|
ActiveX control: A program that enhances the functionality of Web pages. On the Web, these files are often harmless and even useful. However, some ActiveX controls are malicious, and when attached to email messages, it's best to block them from your computer.
|
Java applet: Another program that enhances the functionality of Web pages. Again, many of these files are safe when viewed on the Web, but when received as email attachments they should be treated as suspicious. |
Yes, Virus Blocking scans all file attachments, even those contained within a ZIP or other compressed file.
This message informs you that Message Center has blocked one or more virus-infected messages from your inbox, and sent them to your Virus Quarantine. The message doesn't list the messages or their contents, but it has a convenient link for logging in to Message Center to view quarantined messages.
