These instructions are for the basic configuration of the Cisco 675/678 router, and computers connected to the router. When you get the router from Qwest, a wiring diagram will be included. Use this diagram to connect all the wires, including the blue Management cable, which connects to a serial port on your computer. Use the yellow wire to connect the ENET port on the router to your computer.

Configuring the Router

On a Windows computer, use Hyper Terminal (Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Communications -> Hyper Terminal) to configure the Cisco 675 router.

Macintosh Users: Use ZTerm instead of Hyper Terminal.

Give the connection a name, click 'OK'.

In the Connect using field, select the 'Direct to Comx', with x being the port number your router is connected to.

Click 'OK'.

Now change the configuration to 38400 Bits per second, Data bits 8, Parity None, Stop bits 1 and Flow Control None

Click 'OK'.

Press enter on the keyboard, and you will get a cbos prompt. You will need to enter the following commands to configure your router to use with TCQ Internet.

cbos> enable
password:

Press enter for the password

cbos# set nvram erase
cbos# write
cbos# reboot

cbos> enable

cbos# set ppp wan0-0 dns 0.0.0.0
cbos# set ppp wan0-0 ipcp 0.0.0.0

cbos# set ppp wan0-0 password your password

cbos# set nat enabled
cbos# set int vip0 address FirstUsableIPAddress
cbos# set int vip0 mask Mask

cbos# set int vip0 outside

The mask is determined by the size of the subnet.

Subnet Size Mask
4 255.255.255.252
8 255.255.255.248
16 255.255.255.240
32 255.255.255.224
64 255.255.255.192

cbos# set dhcp server enable
cbos# write
cbos# reboot

Run these steps only if you are using a Cisco 678 in DMT mode.

cbos> enable
password:

cbos# set int wan0-0 disable
cbos# write
cbos# set int wan0-0 vpi 0
cbos# set int wan0-0 vci 32
cbos# write
cbos# set int wan0-0 enable
cbos# write
cbos# set int wan0 retrain
