These instructions are for the basic configuration of the Cisco 675/678 router, and computers connected to the router. When you get the router from Qwest, a wiring diagram will be included. Use this diagram to connect all the wires, including the blue Management cable, which connects to a serial port on your computer. Use the yellow wire to connect the ENET port on the router to your computer.
Configuring the Router
On a Windows computer, use Hyper Terminal (Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Communications -> Hyper Terminal) to configure the Cisco 675 router.
Machintosh Users: Use ZTerm instead of Hyper Terminal.
Give the connection a name, click 'OK'.
In the Connect using field, select the 'Direct to Comx', with x being the port number your router is connected to.
Click 'OK'.
Now change the configuration to 38400 Bits per second, Data bits 8, Parity None, Stop bits 1 and Flow Control None.
Click 'OK'.
Press enter on the keyboard, and you will get a cbos prompt. You will need to enter the following commands to configure your router to use with TCQ Internet.
cbos> enable
Press enter for the password
cbos# set nvram erase cbos> enable
Press enter for the password
cbos# set ppp wan0-0 dns 0.0.0.0
Perform these steps only if you are using a Cisco 678 in DMT mode.
cbos> enable cbos# set int wan0-0 disable
Now the router configuration is complete. Use the following steps to configure your computer:
Windows Workstations
To configure a Windows computer, go into Control Panel -> Network -> TCP/IP for your network adapter and configure the following settings:
Macintosh Workstations
To configure a Macintosh computer, configure the TCP/IP Control Panel as follows:
